One Day Marangu Village Tour
One Day Marangu Village Tour
Short Overview
Located at the foot of Africa’s tallest mountain, the quaint village of Marangu offers fascinating insight into both modern Tanzanian life and into the lives of the Chaga people who once withstood vicious Maasai raids through the ingenious use of tunnels.
Your day tour includes a visit to these Chaga tunnels, a hike to a beautiful waterfall, a tour of a local coffee plantation, and the opportunity to sample the potent banana beer that is popular with the locals.
Details of One Day Marangu Village Tour
You’ll depart from your Arusha hotel early in the morning or your Moshi/Kilimanjaro hotel shortly after breakfast. The town of Marangu is located a two-hour drive from Arusha.
The exact order of activities on your tour may vary, but all of our Marangu Village tours include:
- Kilasya Falls: The walk to these picturesque falls is a leisurely hike through local banana plantations and quiet clusters of homes. You’ll use stepping stones to cross the river and there’s a bit of muddy downhill hiking to get there, but the reward at the end is a towering waterfall with blessedly cool waters beneath. The particularly adventurous may even wish to hop in for a quick swim.
- Local coffee plantation tour: You’ll pay a visit to a locally owned and operated coffee plantation to learn more about the process that takes the beans from the tree to our cups. Try your hand at manually grinding and roasting beans, and reward your hard work with some delicious, fresh coffee.
- Chaga tunnels tour: You’ll venture down into the inky black darkness of the tunnels in which Chaga sheltered when the Maasai would raid from the lowlands. Your guide will guide you unerringly through the underground labyrinth as he describes the days of guerilla warfare and how the people survived underground for so long.
- Banana beer tasting: Visit a local banana beer vendor to try this potent local brew.Your day tour also includes either a picnic lunch or lunch at a local restaurant. You’ll return to your lodge in the late afternoon (Moshi) or the early evening (Arusha).
One Day Safari to Tarangire National Park
One Day Safari to Tarangire National Park
Short Overview
Tarangire is the least visited of the parks along Tanzania’s northern circuit, and it’s a crying shame. The park’s large elephant population, iconic Baobab trees, and diversity of wildlife make it one of the best parks in the country for taking breathtaking photos or simply basking in the beauty of the world’s largest land mammals.
Game drives through Tarangire are particularly thrilling during the dry season when the animals of the park must cluster closer and closer to the Tarangire River. This offers a great opportunity to see plenty of animals in one place and to witness the predator-prey relationship in action.
Details of One Day Safari to Tarangire National Park
DAY ONE: ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
You’ll depart from Arusha after breakfast and begin the two hour drive to Tarangire National Park.
Along the way you’ll take in the changing landscape as Arusha’s urban jungle is replaced by wide open plains and quaint Masai villages. Checking in at the park offers a good chance to see mischievous monkeys darting about in the shade and you can also pose with a gigantic Baobab at the park’s entrance.
Once inside the park, you’ll see the eponymous Tarangire river lined with acacia and Baobab where game amble to and fro throughout the day. During the dry season, thousands of animals from the Masai steppe migrate to the Tarangire region looking for water so you can see dozens of different species in a small amount of time.
Exclusive to the park are endangered animals such as the Greater Kudu, Fringe-Eared Oryx, and the Ashy Starling
Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the park’s picnic areas and take in an unparralelled view of the Tarangire River. Keep an eye on your food though, as the local monkey population will be only too happy to make off with a tasty treat if given the opportunity!
You’ll return to Arusha late in the afternoon.
